OpenAI Expands ChatGPT With Pulse, Agentic Shopping, and Safety Controls

OpenAI is rapidly transforming ChatGPT into a multifunctional AI platform, adding tools that make the chatbot more proactive, more useful, and safer than ever. Three major updates—ChatGPT Pulse, Instant Checkout, and a new safety routing system—show how OpenAI is reshaping the future of AI-powered experiences.

ChatGPT Pulse Delivers Personalized Morning Briefs

OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Pulse, a proactive feature that sends personalized morning briefs directly to users. While you sleep, Pulse compiles five to ten AI-generated reports on news, events, and personal updates from apps like Google Calendar or Gmail. Each report appears as an interactive card with source links and AI images, making it easy to start your day fully informed.
Currently available to Pro plan subscribers ($200/month), Pulse will expand to Plus users and eventually all ChatGPT accounts as OpenAI boosts server capacity.

Agentic Shopping With Instant Checkout

OpenAI is also venturing into AI-powered e-commerce with its new Instant Checkout feature. U.S. ChatGPT users can now purchase Etsy products—and soon Shopify items—without leaving the chat. Integrated with Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Stripe, the system enables frictionless transactions while promising organic, unsponsored product recommendations.
OpenAI is also open-sourcing the Agentic Commerce Protocol (ACP), making it easier for merchants to integrate conversational storefronts and potentially challenge Google and Amazon as key players in online retail.

Safety Routing and Parental Controls

To address growing concerns about AI-induced harm, OpenAI has introduced a safety routing system that detects emotionally sensitive conversations and switches to GPT-5 for safer responses. This “safe completion” approach helps handle high-stakes topics more responsibly.
In addition, new parental controls let guardians set quiet hours, disable features like image generation, and receive alerts if the system detects signs of self-harm in teen accounts. OpenAI says these safeguards will continue to evolve based on user feedback.
